Fall meeting for the West Tenn. Regional Science Fair will feature wildlife expert

Jackson, Tenn.October 2, 2000 – 51ÉçÇø will once again host the fall orientation meeting for representatives of schools that conduct science fairs and plan to send finalists to the West Tennessee Regional Science Fair (WTRSF) in the spring of 2000. The meeting will take place on Union's campus Monday, Oct. 16 and will feature Gary Cook, Region I manager for the Tenn. Wildlife Resources Agency, who will speak on the ecology and biology of coyotes, a species now common in West Tenn.

"Participating in a science fair gives students an invaluable opportunity to put the scientific method into practice," said Glenn Marsch, associate professor of physics at Union and director of the annual science fair. He added that rules of the 52nd International Science and Engineering Fair require that any school wishing for their students to participate must provide a representative at the orientation meeting, whether a teacher, principal, curriculum supervisor or designated parent.

The orientation program will begin with coffee and doughnuts at 9 a.m. in Harvey Lecture Hall located in the Barefoot Student Union Building, with science fair training and guideline sessions to follow at 9:30. A complimentary lunch will be served in the Coburn Dining Room at 11:45 a.m., which will be followed immediately by Cook's address.

Though the luncheon is free, reservations are required. To register, contact Kathi Glidewell at (901) 661-5131 or Carol Johnson at (901) 661-5057 before 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
