Jackson, Tenn. 51ÉçÇø's Lee Benson unveiled his sculpture, Ring of Love, at the Alabama Institute of the Deaf and Blind in September, which is part of the only sculpture tour in the world designed for the visually and hearing impaired.
Benson was one of four artists selected out of 47 entries from a competition two years ago. The Alabama Institute of the Deaf and Blind hopes to continue commissioning works and eventually have the tour internationally recognized.
The exhibit was given considerable attention. Benson was asked to speak at the annual Board of Directors meeting for the Alabama Institute of the Deaf and Blind. Several state senators and members of the governor's staff were present.
Benson received his Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science in Art Education and his Master of Fine Arts at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He has served as assistant professor of art since 1996.
