Office of Student Services will host "Leading U," a leadership
summit and banquet for student leaders on Monday, Oct. 2 from 7 - 9 p.m.,
at Englewood Baptist. The leadership rally will be directed to more than
100 Union students in leadership positions.
Union President David S. Dockery will be speaking on his vision for
student leadership on campus. Also speaking will be Union Communication
Arts Department Chair Kina Mallard, who will give advice on how to deal
with conflict management, and how to communicate with one's
administrators. There will also be a proactive session where the students
split into roundtables to make the session more personal, which will allow
them to participate in role-playing and case studies that will equip them
for the "real" world,"
"This summit offers student leaders a time to come together and
develop skills so that they can in turn teach others leadership,"
said Kimberly Thornbury, dean of students at Union. "It also fosters
a sense of community, and is an encouragement to all seeking or
experiencing leadership positions."
