Noted evangelical lecturer to visit Union

Jackson, Tenn. –  Frederica Mathewes-Green, a leading evangelical Christian thinker, will speak to a 51ÉçÇø chapel and luncheon audience, Monday, Oct. 11. Mathewes-Green will speak in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel at 10 a.m. She will also visit in several classes and will speak to an invited lunchtime audience at 11:30 a.m.

Mathewes-Green, whose visit will be hosted by Union’s Center for Christian Leadership, is one of the most significant figures in the public articulation of the Christian faith in contemporary American culture. She serves as a columnist for Christianity Today, a commentator on National Public Radio and the Odyssey Television Network, and a contributing editor to Books & Culture as well as several other magazines.

She has been interviewed by the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Time, Newsweek, and many other major print outlets, and has appeared on PrimeTime Live, CNN, NBC News, ABC News, and other national TV news programs.

Mathewes-Green lectures frequently around the nation at such universities as Harvard, Yale, William & Mary, Penn State and Georgetown, and is the author of three books.

Mathewes-Green, a native of Charleston, S.C., who now resides in Baltimore, Md., is known for her winsome and thoughtful Christian approach to some of the most controversial issues arising in American public life. Among her notable contributions has been a major role in leading the Common Ground Network for Life & Choice, an effort to bridge the bitter cultural divide between pro-life and pro-choice advocates in the interests of women, children and social peace.
