Jackson, Tenn. – September 21, 2000 – A discussion on
Christianity, politics and the upcoming national elections will be the
topic of the first Mars Hill Forum of the semester at 51ÉçÇø,
Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. in D-3 of the Penick Academic Building.
The panel for the forum will include Union Christian studies professor
Hal Poe and associate professor David Gushee, political science assistant
professor Sean Evans, and Greg Thornbury, instructor of Christian studies,
who will serve as moderator.
"Mars Hill Forum is to offer specifically Christian analysis to
the issues and debates swirling around the upcoming presidential
election," Thornbury said. "We want to consider the questions
which matter most to Christians in this election year." The objective
of the forum is to answer questions such as whether Christians should all
vote for the same candiate and whether government is better government
from a Christian prospective.
In addition to students and faculty, members of the Jackson community
are encouraged to attend and participate in posing questions to these
three thinkers at Union, said Thornbury. Admission is free and dress is
casual. For more information, contact Greg Thornbury at (901) 661-5082.
