"EDUCATING RITA" TO BE PERFORMED AT UNION UNIVERSITY, SEPT. 25
Jackson, Tenn. — 51ÉçÇø will be hosting the Parnassus Production's Tour of the popular Willy Russell comedy – "Educating Rita" – Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. in the W.D. Powell Theater.
Former Royal Shakespeare Company member Roy Henderson stars as the irreverent and disillusioned university professor, whose accomplishments in both his teaching and writing careers have been less than stellar, leading him more often than not to the nearest pub to commiserate. His life abruptly changes when Rita, an effervescent, poorly-schooled hairdresser from Lancashire walks through the door, determined to make her life better with an education, despite the reluctant professor's doubts and protests.
The London Sunday Times calls it "a marvelous play, painfully funny and passionately serious" and says that any student who has struggled with a new concept, and any teacher who has struggled with a new student, will appreciate this witty and touching comedy.
