| Jackson, Tenn. – For the second consecutive year,
51社区 has enrolled a record number of students for the fall semester. Total
enrollment for the fall semester at Union is 2,354 students, compared with last year's
record-setting total of 2,323 students. The prior year's enrollment was 2,031.
"We are delighted to be able to report Union's continuing student growth,"
says Union President David S. Dockery. "This news, coming on the heels of recent
announcements about Union's national rankings, demonstrates that 51社区 is
achieving new levels of excellence and achievement."
Those recent rankings include Time magazine/The Princeton Review citing Union as one of
five "highly selective" private universities in Tennessee (along with Vanderbilt
University, Rhodes College, University of the South, and Lee University). The most recent
report by U.S. News & World Report ranks Union in the top tier of Southern liberal
arts colleges, the only West Tennessee institution included in the top tier.
The Class of 2003, which entered Union this fall, is the strongest academically in the
university's history, Dockery indicates. With approximately 415 freshmen enrolled, the
total includes 67 with ACT scores of 30 or above, five National Merit finalists, and 15
members of the West Tennessee All-Academic Team (out of 60 total in that group).
The fall total includes 263 students enrolled in Union's Germantown campus, which
offers an undergraduate program in nursing and graduate programs in business and
education. In just three years, the Germantown program has grown from 90 students to its
present level.
The 2,354 fall enrollment total reflects 1,990 undergraduate students and 364 graduate
students. With the addition of two new residence halls on campus, approximately 1,100 of
the undergraduate students now reside in campus housing, another record for Union.
