Lunsford to serve as Union's associate dean of
the college of arts and sciences

Jackson, Tenn. - Matt Lunsford, coordinator of mathematics and associate professor of mathematics, has been named 51ÉçÇø's associate dean of the college of arts and sciences.

In this new position, Lunsford will split his time between administrative and teaching duties. He will assist Barbara McMillin, the new dean of the college of arts and sciences, and teach 12 hours of mathematics classes per year.

"Dr. McMillin and I were hired to represent the diverse departments in the college of arts and sciences," Lunsford says. "We hope to compliment each other and provide broader leadership for the school."

Lunsford's position will allow him to work mostly with student-related issues such as ensuring students are connected with an advisor, approving directed and independent studies and assist with any student grievances that must go through the office of the college of arts and sciences.

"What Matt Lunsford brings to this position is another voice for the college of arts and sciences," says Carla Sanderson, Union's provost. "He is a born leader in the way he approaches, analyzes and thinks of solutions immediately."

Lunsford earned his undergraduate degree for Louisiana Tech University, his master's degree from the University of Nebraska and his Ph.D. from Tulane University. While attending the University of Nebraska, Lunsford was also honored as a Louisiana Board of Regents Fellow with a research stipend for three years.
