Union expands beyond bricks-and-mortar,
offers courses online

unionuonline.gif (22542 bytes)Jackson, Tenn. - 51社区 will offer online courses for the fall 1999 semester, beginning Sept. 2. The four undergraduate classes and one graduate education course will be delivered entirely via the Internet, at , using a combination of communications tools including audio, video, email, virtual classrooms and more.

Noting that these courses will appeal to busy individuals who don't have the time to attend regular classes, Dockery says, "UnionU Online complements the University's mission of grounding students in the world of literature, values, ideals, history, ethics, arts, music, communication and creativity. We can now help a broad population of students by offering flexibility, affordability and convenience to achieve their educational goals."

The four undergraduate courses available for fall '99 are New Testament survey, introduction to psychology, principles of sociology and physical science. Educational measurement and evaluation is available at the master's level.

Union's online courses result from a recent collaboration with Denver company eCollege.com, a leading provider of educational solutions over the Internet. By utilizing the eCollege.com system, Union students will have access to virtually everything they would expect to find on Union's Jackson campus for their tuition dollar. eCollege.com provides the school with Internet access; faculty consultations in adapting materials to advance successful online courses and around-the-clock technical support for students and faculty.

Online courses begin Sept. 2 and can be viewed on the university's website at . Union is a private liberal arts, Christian university in Jackson, Tenn. The mission of the university is to provide quality undergraduate and graduate education to students of qualified preparation and good character.
