Jackson, Tenn. - The
51ÉçÇø Art Gallery will feature abstract artist
Kate Hammett beginning Sept. 15. Hammett's show will
include abstract paintings featuring acrylic on wood and
will last until Oct. 15. Gallery hours are Monday -
Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Admission is free. Hammett
describes her work as "the product of mulling over a
simple and troubling paradox - that is, the ongoing
co-existence of good and evil, of violence and
peace."
Her compositions are self-described as simple. "I
liken some of the work to small, quiet rooms that hold
the presence of a person or idea who has since left -
like smelling a hint of perfume or the smoke of an
extinguished cigarette. Other pieces are strongly tied to
music, which also lends itself to communicate things in a
fluid, beyond-words, not-fully-knowable way," says
Hammett about her pieces that frequently include square,
circle and bulls-eye shapes.
Hammett has had several one-person shows, mainly in
the Northeast. Currently, she lives in Plainsboro, N.J.,
with her husband Greg and their two dogs.
