Ten new faculty join Union in fall

Jackson, Tenn. - Union University will welcome 10 new faculty members for the fall semester. Classes begin Sept. 2. The recent additions were made in the departments of communication arts, business, nursing, English, Christian studies, physical education, and chemistry and physics.

Christopher Blair will join the communication arts department. Blair will serve as assistant professor of communication arts. Blair is a graduate of Union and received his master of arts in communication at the University of Memphis. He has served as adjunct instructor at both the University of Memphis and at Union.

Linda Garrard and Steve Strombeck will join the McAfee School of Business Administration. Garrard will serve as associate professor of business. Strombeck will serve as assistant professor of business.

Garrard is a graduate of the University of Montevello. She received her master's from Sanford University and her Ph.D. from the University of Memphis. Garrard comes to Union after being assistant professor at Lambuth University.

Strombeck has studied at several institutions of higher learning. He received his bachelor's from Westmont College, his master's from Pepperdine University, and his Ph.D. from The University of Mississippi, where he taught as an instructor for the last five years.

The School of Nursing is joined by Susan Jacob, Sandra Kirkland and Charlotte Ward-Larson. Jacob will serve the School of Nursing as professor and dean. Kirkland and Ward-Larson will both join the nursing faculty as associate professors of nursing.

After graduating from West Virginia University, Jacob received her master of science in nursing from San Jose State University and her Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee, Memphis. She comes to Union from the University of Memphis, where she taught as a professor, after serving as a hospice administrator for five years.

Kirkland graduated from the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga and then went on to complete her bachelor of science in nursing at Mobile College and her master's at the University of Mobile. She is currently completing her doctorate in nursing science at the University of Memphis.

After receiving her bachelor of arts from Stephens College, Ward-Larson received her master's from Texas Woman's University and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at St. Louis University. She comes to Union from the University of Memphis where she served as assistant professor.

The department of English will add David Malone to its faculty. Malone will be associate professor of English. Malone is a graduate of Wheaton College. He received his master's from the State University of New York and holds a Ph.D. from Northern Illinois University.

James A. Patterson will join the department of Christian studies. He will be professor of Christian studies. Patterson received his bachelor's from Rutgers University, a master of divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and his Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary. He comes to Union after serving as professor, department chair and associate professor for Mid-America Baptist Seminary for the last 10 years.

Robert Stiegmann will join the physical education, wellness and sport department. He will be instructor of physical education, wellness and sport. After graduating from the University of Missouri, Stiegmann received his master's from the University of Mississippi. He comes to Union from Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, where he served as coordinator of sports medicine.

David Ward will join the chemistry and physics department. He will be associate professor of chemistry and physics. Ward received both his bachelor and master from the University of South Florida. He holds a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University. Ward comes to Union from Florida Southern College, where he served as associate professor.
