Jackson, Tenn. 51ÉçÇø recently welcomed Rev. Kim and Katherine North as the 1997-98 Missionaries in Residence.
For seven years, Union has provided a residence for Southern Baptist missionaries during their furlough. The missionaries, who live on Union's campus for one year, spend considerable time visiting in West Tennessee churches and getting to know as they share of their work in international missions.
The missionaries-in-residence program provides mentoring opportunities to Union students who are entering the mission field. "Our students will have an opportunity to get to know and learn from Kim's and Katherine's experiences in the Philippines," Dr. John Adams, vice president for campus ministries and church services, said.
Kim, a native of Bells, Tenn., received the bachelor's of science degree from Union in 1981 followed by the master's of divinity degree from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tenn. Katherine, who is a registered nurse and a native of Orlinda, Tenn., was graduated from Union in 1986 with the bachelor's of science in nursing. The North's current mission assignment is in Davao City, Philippines. They have three children: Durham Alan, 11; Mary Katherine, 10; and Steven, 3.
