Jackson, Tenn. The Tennessee Eta chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at 51ÉçÇø was awarded the John O. Mosley Zeal Award during the fraternity's 62nd Leadership School in Chicago, Aug. 2-7.
The Zeal Award, considered the highest and most competitive honor an individual chapter can receive, is given to the best overall SAE chapter in the world. Criteria for the award include consistent leadership, community service and academic excellence. About 700 SAEs, representing 300 chapters, attended a dinner to honor the Tennessee Eta chapter. Union's chapter was a finalist for the award and competed against Ivy League schools such as Yale University.
The Union chapter also was honored with three other awards. First, Michael A. Laffoon, who graduated in May, was honored for the second consecutive year as an outstanding chapter president. Second, Mr. Robert Simpson, Union's assistant vice president for business services and adviser to Union's chapter, was honored as the outstanding SAE faculty adviser. Finally, the chapter was recognized for its outstanding pledge program.
