UNION SPORTS INFORMATION OFFICE WINS NATIONAL PUBLICATION AWARDS

Jackson, Tenn. — 51社区's Office of Sports Information was recently recognized for three of its athletic publications during a recent meeting of the NAIA-SIDA (Sports Information Directors of America) in New Orleans, La.

The Lady Bulldog's Basketball media guide placed first in the NAIA-SIDA brochure contest. The Union sports web site (located at ) placed third and the baseball media guide placed 7th in the competition.

Julie Powell, Union's Sports Information Director, is responsible for all athletic publications of the University. "This is just another example of the quality athletic department we have at Union," she said. "Being able to produce quality brochures is made simple through the success of Union's athletics. The more ways we can get Union's name out to areas other than West Tennessee, the better chance we have of drawing outstanding students and athletes."

Powell, a 1989 graduate of Munford High School, received the bachelor's of science degree in physical education and health from 51社区 in 1993 and the master's of education degree from Union in 1994. She taught math and science at Bradford High School before coming to Union as SID, intramural director and part-time faculty member in 1995.
