UNION FIRST LADY TO LEAD AS CONFERENCE PRESIDENT

Jackson, Tenn. — 51社区's first lady, Lanese Dockery, was elected president of the Southern Baptist Ministers' Wives Conference during the denomination's annual convention last week in Dallas.

The Jackson woman, who is the wife of 51社区 President, Dr. David S. Dockery, will coordinate fellowship relationships with ministers' wives throughout the country. She will also plan program events for the 1999 conference.

"It's an opportunity to minister to ministers' wives," she said. "I really do love and care about ministers' wives."

She will assume her responsibilities as president next summer at the 1998 annual Southern Baptist Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. A member of Englewood Baptist Church in Jackson, Mrs. Dockery will select a theme and speaker for the 1999 Ministers' Wives Conference during the annual convention in Atlanta.

"She has excellent people skills and leadership abilities and will serve in this capacity very effectively," said her husband, Dr. Dockery.

Mrs. Dockery is the second Tennessean to be elected to this position since the conference began in 1956. Previously, Mrs. Roy W. Babb, a 1938 graduate of 51社区 and a retired teacher currently residing in Nashville, was president in 1974.

Formerly, Mrs. Dockery served as president of the Faculty Wives Club in 1995-96 at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. where Dr. Dockery was vice president for academic administration prior to becoming president at Union in 1996. She has also served as a pastor's wife and, along with her husband, has been involved in numerous denominational and local church functions.
