Jackson, Tenn. - Union
University's LAUNCH program, which allows non-traditional
students with at lea st 60 semester hours completed to
earn a bachelor of science in organizational leadership
(BSOL), is set to begin its first semester of classes in
Selmer, Tenn., this fall. Beginning Aug. 16, Union's degree completion program will allow working adults who are at least 24 years old and have completed at least two or more years of college to earn a bachelor's degree from Union using the University of Tennessee - Martin's Selmer facility. Students must complete 128 semester hours including the 40 hours in the LAUNCH program, general education requirements such as English/speech, natural science and college algebra, and 42 semester hours of general electives. "The LAUNCH program gives working adults the quickest way possible to complete their degree," Barbara Perry, director of MBA and the LAUNCH program, says. "The program allows students to combine their life experiences with theory in the classroom. It is an enhanced educational opportunity." Classes will be offered at the University of Tennessee - Martin McNairy County Center/Selmer one night a week from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Professors from Union's McAfee School of Business Administration will teach some of the classes. Union's LAUNCH program operates in a cohort environment, allowing students to earn 40 hours of credit in 18 months for their bachelor's degree. With the cohort structure, incoming students are grouped into classes of 25. Each group then makes its way through the program together one course at a time, one night a week. The Selmer program is still accepting applications for the fall semester. Union's LAUNCH program began January 1998. The first cohort group of 24 students will complete its classes later this month and graduate in August. |
