Jackson, Tenn. - More than three months prior to the event, all sponsorships for the second annual Union University Scholarship Banquet have been sold out. The October 20 event will feature a keynote address by Lady Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of Great Britain. The sponsorships already committed will provide more than $200,000 in scholarship support, explains Kent Freeman, Union's Director of Major Gifts and coordinator of the October event. Sponsorships, which provide tables for dinner during the event along with other benefits, begin at $1,000 and move upward to $10,000 or more. "For our very first banquet last year, we did not even begin selling tables until July 25," says Freeman. "For us to be sold out this year by July 6 reflects the incredible response we have received from this event since the announcement of Lady Thatcher's appearance." Individual tickets for balcony seating will be available after August 1 for a cost of $25 per person. Tickets will be available through the University Bookstore as well as several other outlets to be announced. The annual Scholarship Banquet is sponsored by the university's Board of Presidential Associates, a group of local business and civic leaders who support 51ÉçÇø. The first banquet in 1997 featured former Notre Dame head football coach Lou Holtz. Freeman indicates that persons or organizations interested in sponsorships should contact him. Union will be keeping a list in case existing supporters find they will be unable to use some or all of their sponsored tables. Interested persons should call (901) 661-5050. |
