UNION BIOLOGY PROFESSOR PARTICIPATES IN GENETIC WORKSHOP
Jackson, Tenn. — 51社区's Elsie Smith, associate professor of biology, was one of 24 faculty members from colleges throughout the nation to be selected to participate in a workshop on Human Genome Diversity Student Allele Database.
The three-day workshop, sponsored by the National Science Foundation, was held recently at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. Genetic researchers from the DNA Learning Center at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York led the workshop.
Smith received the bachelor's of science degree from 51社区 in 1960 and a master's of science degree from the University of Illinois in 1962. She returned to Union as a faculty member in 1962.
