Jackson, Tenn. - Music
professors Andrew Roby and John Poore will launch the
Master Chorale of West Tennessee this September, with
auditions being held the evenings of Aug. 23 and 24, in
the Recital Hall of the Penick Academic Complex at Union
University. Roby is chair of the music department at
Union; Poore chairs Freed-Harde man's fine arts and music
department. With the Master Chorale, Poore and Roby
hope to create a regional chorale of approximately 100
voices to sing quality choral music in public venues.
Rather than replace West Tennessee's existing church and
school choirs, Roby and Poore plan for the new group to
complement their work. The Master Chorale will offer a
community concert every fall and spring, showcasing a
variety of music including Broadway tunes, opera choruses
and other popular works.
Vocalists, church choir members and other adults
interested in auditioning must schedule an audition time
with Roby or Poore. Those who are selected for the
Chorale will be expected to rehearse every Monday
beginning Sept. 13. To schedule an audition or for more
information, contact Roby at (901) 661-5311 or Poore at
(901) 660-0658.
