Jackson, Tenn. - Shannon Carter, a native of Jackson and a senior nursing major at 51ÉçÇø, was recently awarded a $3,000 Life Care Scholarship by the Tennessee Foundation for Independent Colleges.

"This scholarship is really competitive," said Claude Pressnell, executive director of the Tennessee Foundation for Independent Colleges. "The quality of applicants makes this competitive because of the integrity of the applicants and their desire to serve in long-term health care facilities."

Carter, one of five recipients in the state, received the award for her commitment to serve in the long-term health care industry, specifically in the modern nursing home. In her application, Carter expressed eagerness to learn issues, challenges and solutions within the health care industry.
