UNION UNIVERSITY GRADUATES 363 IN SPRING COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES

Jackson, Tenn. — 51ÉçÇø graduated 363 students during the University's 172nd annual commencement exercises Saturday, May 31 held at Oman Arena.

Those who were graduated completed their degree requirements in December 1996, January 1997 or May 1997. An additional 40 students who anticipate finishing their requirements during the summer also participated in the exercises.

Dr. Timothy George, dean of the Beeson School of Divinity at Samford University, delivered the commencement address and Dr. Jerry Tidwell, pastor of West Jackson Baptist Church, Jackson, Tenn., served as the baccalaureate speaker.

Rachel Wright, a biology major from Jackson, Tenn., was awarded the Elizabeth Tigrett Medal, an award honoring the outstanding member of the graduating class of 1997.

Highest academic achievement awards were presented to Christina Hinson, an elementary education major from Linden, Tenn.; Daphne Johnson, a management/marketing major from Lexington, Tenn. and Amy Wood, a psychology major also from Lexington, Tenn. These students attained a perfect 4.0 grade point average during their college career at Union.
