The 325 students and their families were congratulated by Union University President David S. Dockery who quipped that "while salvation comes by grace, graduation at 51ÉçÇø comes by work - a lot of hard work." "You have been pushed by your mentors - faculty members who have guided you during your time here with us," said Dockery. "This class has been shaped by leadership and excellence every step of the way and we thank God for you." Gary Grisham, out-going president of Union's National Alumni Association welcomed the new alumni. "You're one of us now!" said Grisham as he congratulated the graduates on their accomplishment. "Tomorrow you will go from a paying customer to an owner. Consider your diploma like a trust or stock certificate - the investment you've made in time, energy and resources will now be a return on that investment." Grisham went on to explain that with ownership comes responsibility. "It takes vision, leadership, dedication and participation by the largest supporters - Union alumni," said Grisham. Grisham expressed his wishes that the graduates would leave Union with not just their diplomas, but with good memories of the place where they have invested so much. "It is my wish for each of you that you won't lose your memories, but if you ever do, remember this - you can always find them again right back here at 51ÉçÇø." |
