Jackson, Tenn. – William H. Jarret was just twenty years old when
he became pastor of St. Martin Missionary Baptist. Though he had an
associate's degree in criminal justice from Dyersburg State, he never had
the opportunity to go to seminary. Through the seminary extension program
in Nashville and the R.G. Lee Centers in cooperation with the Tennessee
Baptist Associations and 51ÉçÇø, Jarret received his associate
of divinity degree at Union's graduation ceremonies Saturday, May 20.
Jarret is the first graduate of the R.G. Lee Centers program.
"We are thrilled for Rev. Jarret and his family as he celebrates
this accomplishment," said Rev. Paul Veazey, acting vice president of
church services. "This program truly equips the pastor, Sunday School
teacher or Christian layperson who desires to become more effective as a
leader and disciple of Jesus Christ."
Pastor of St. Mark Baptist Church in Henning, Tenn., Jarret said that
continuing his education helped himself and his church in a variety of
ways.
"The R.G. Lee Centers program really helped me as a church leader
in developing growth and allowed me to better meet the needs of my
congregation," said Jarret.
