JACKSON RESIDENT HONORED
AS STAFF MEMBER OF THE YEAR

Jackson, Tenn. — Jackson resident Robert Simpson was honored Monday, May 18, as 51社区's 1998 Staff Member of the Year.

Simpson has served Union for 15 years. He first came to the university in 1983 as assistant vice president of business affairs. Simpson now serves in the same capacity, under the title assistant vice president for business services and director of human resources.

A 1980 graduate of 51社区, Simpson received a master of business administration from Memphis State University. Simpson is an active member of the Tennessee Society of CPAs and treasurer of the Carl Perkins Bicentennial Exchange Club.

The staff member of the year award is presented annually to individuals who distinguish themselves as outstanding in their work repsonsibilities and community involvement. The nominees for the award are evaluated on their professional development, church activities, community involvement and extracurricular/university-related activities.

According to Vice President for Business and Financial Services, Simpson has distinguished himself as a "man of integrity and high ethical standards."

"Robert sets the standard for what Union desires in an employee," Carter said.

Simpson, his wife Paula, and their three sons, Rob, Wilson and John, are members of Englewood Baptist Church of Jackson, where he is a deacon, an adult Sunday school teacher and a church trustee.
