Local artists to host workshop for children

Jackson, Tenn. - The 51ÉçÇø Department of Art will be hosting a workshop for children ages 9-13 from June 7-11. The workshop is titled, "The Art in You: Exploring the value of personal story as inspiration for artwork."

The workshop will be held in the Union Art Department located in the Penick Academic Complex and will feature a morning session from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and an afternoon session from 1-4 p.m. The cost is $150 per student, which includes all materials. Registrants can choose between the morning and afternoon sessions.

The instructors for the workshop are Marilynn Eblen, who has served as the Visual Art Specialist at Jackson Middle School for the Arts and Humanities, and Debra Tayloe, an active artist in the community who has held a series of children' s workshops inspired by her studies at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Students will be encouraged to work individually in an atmosphere of experimentation and discovery at the workshop. They will have the opportunity to explore painting, collage, printmaking and three-dimensional work.
