Jackson, Tenn. –
Virginia Trotter Betts, former national senior advisor on nursing and
policy, will speak at 51ÉçÇø's School of Nursing's pinning
ceremony for nursing graduates Thursday evening, May 19 at 7 p.m. in the
G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel.
"The pinning ceremony is a very significant event in the life of
all nursing students," said Susan Jacob, dean of the School of
Nursing. "It symbolizes that the student is now a full-fledged nurse,
equipped with all of the responsibilities and privileges that come with
the job. We are especially thrilled to have Virginia Trotter Betts with us
for this special time."
Betts, who will speak on "Celebrating Nursing and Nurses in the
New Millenium," is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, the
Vanderbilt School of Nursing and the Nashville School of Law. She is one
of only twelve nurses to have been chosen for the highly selective Robert
Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowship and has been involved in health care
as a clinician, administrator, educator, researcher and policy activist.
Betts has frequently represented the U.S. internationally on health issues
and is the author of scores of articles on nursing, health care and health
law.
A Tenn. native, Betts recently accepted a position as the associate
director for health policy initiatives at the University of Tennessee's
newly formed Center for Health Services Research at UT Health Sciences
Center's College of Nursing.
