GUSHEE TO LECTURE ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

Jackson, Tenn. — 51ÉçÇø will welcome David E. Gushee, father of Union associate professor of Christian studies David P. Gushee, to lecture on Friday, May 16.

Gushee, who is retired from the Congressional Researcher Service at the Library of Congress, is currently an independent consultant working on environmental issues.

He will hold a lecture, sponsored by Union's chapters of the American Chemical Society and Sigma Zeta, at 1 p.m. in A-7 of the Penick Academic Complex. Gushee will speak on "Alternative Fuels: Problems and Prospects." The lecture is open to the public.

Earlier in the day, he will speak to an Issues in Christian Ethics class at 9 a.m. on "Environmental Ethics: The State of the Argument."

Gushee's vocational accomplishments are superior. In 1950, he graduated from MIT with a degree in chemical engineering. From 1950-56 he was with Du Pont as a chemical engineer in process and product development. He joined the American Chemical Society staff in 1956 before joining the Congressional Research Service (CRS) in 1972. CRS provides objective information and analysis to members of Congress and their staffs without partisan bias. He was a senior specialist in environmental policy at CRS from 1987 until 1993.
