McWherter has served Union for 18 years. She first came to the university in 1981 as a computer programmer. McWherter now serves as the director of administrative computing at Union.

A 1981 graduate of Union, McWherter is a member of the USTA Tennis League and is an active member in Poplar Heights Baptist Church of Jackson.

"I'm honored to be selected as the recipient of an award that emphasizes recognition for the work that I am doing," McWherter said.

The Staff Member of the Year award is presented annually to individuals who distinguish themselves as outstanding in their work responsibilities and community involvement. The nominees for the award are evaluated on their professional development, church activities, community involvement and extracurricular/university-related activities.
