Jackson, Tenn. – Selected by his peers and colleagues, Union
University Graves Professor of Moral Philosophy David P. Gushee has been
named Faculty Member of the Year for the 2000-2001 term.
"David Gushee is the leading ethicist in the evangelical world
today," said Union President David S. Dockery. "His reputation
as scholar, author and teacher extends far beyond the borders of the Union
campus. His influence among colleagues and students is held in high
regard."
A graduate of the College of William and Mary, Gushee received his
master of divinity degree from Southern Baptist Seminary and his doctorate
in philosophy from Union Theological Seminary in New York City.
Gushee is frequently asked to represent evangelical Christians on
national task forces, conferences and projects related to Christian ethics
and is widely quoted in the media as a commentator on contemporary moral
issues. In 1996, Christianity Today magazine recognized Gushee as one of
50 "up and coming" evangelical leaders under the age of 40.
Gushee has also written or edited four books including "The Righteous
Gentiles of the Holocaust," which has been recognized internationally
as an important work in the study of the Holocaust. Gushee also serves as
a columnist for the local newspaper, The Jackson Sun.
