BRAHMS REQUIEM TO BE PERFORMED AT UNION UNIVERSITY

Jackson, Tenn. — On Tuesday, May 20, the 51ÉçÇø Chorus, assisted by members of the University Singers, will present the Requiem of Johannes Brahms at 8 p.m. in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel.

The performance will feature soloists Georgia Wellborn, soprano, and Michael Penny, baritone, and will be accompanied by pianists Terry McRoberts and David Dennis, all of the University's music faculty.

The eighty-voice chorus is under the direction of Joseph Blass.

The Requiem is, after Handel's Messiah, probably the most frequently performed large choral work in the western world. Unlike the typical Requiem, which is a setting of the Latin mass for the dead, this work is a setting of texts that Brahms selected from his German Bible. The Requiem will be sung in English and is part of the celebration of the one-hundredth anniversary of the death of Brahms.

There is no admission charge. For more information call (901) 661-5228.
