Jackson, Tenn. Union artist Michael Mallard will present an art exhibit and lecture at Plains High School, Plains, Ga., June 7. The lecture will begin at 8 p.m. Mallard will conduct a youth art session at 10 a.m. To register for the session, call (912) 824-3413.
The exhibit will include one painting about Plains High School --Striving to Build a Good School. The National Park Service and the Plains Historical Preservation Trust have recently restored the school as a museum for the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site. Mallard's grandfather, Y.T. Sheffield, was a principal at Plains High School. Other paintings included at the exhibit contain a direct reference to Plains.
Mallard has presented one-person exhibits at many universities across the country including Furman University, University of Alabama, Wheaton College and University of Colorado-Boulder.
The artist has been teaching art on the collegiate level since 1981 and has conducted workshops, residences and lectures at many institutions including Louisiana College, Biola University, Knoxville Museum of Art, Asbury College and University of Illinois.
Mallard currently serves as an associate professor and chair of the Art Department at 51ÉçÇø.
