ARKANSAS DOCTOR TO BE AWARDED HONORARY DOCTORATE BY UNION

Jackson, Tenn. -- Forrest City, Arkansas resident Dr. Edward P. Hammons will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Humanics degree at 51社区's 172nd commencement exercises in Jackson May 31.

51社区 endorses the principles of awarding honorary degrees to persons of outstanding ability, character and achievement. Hammons recently funded the University's first endowed faculty chair of pre-medical studies. Charles Baldwin, Ph.D., a leading chemistry researcher, scholar, and chair of Union's Chemistry and Physics Department, was named as the Hammons Chair for Pre-Medical Studies.

Hammons has served as an associate to Dr. Adron Bradley, also of Forrest City, and has also served at the Forrest View Medical Center, the Brinkley Health Center, the Baptist Family Medical Center and the Forrest Memorial Hospital. He is a medical doctor who received his B.S. degree at Baylor University and his M.D. at the University of Tennessee Medical School.

Hammons' achievements include starting the first paramedic ambulance service in the state of Arkansas and being appointed to Arkansas' Governing Council on E.M.S. and the Department of Public Health Business of E.M.S. He has been ranked among the highest in his profession of medicine.
