Students participate in Collegiate Chemistry event

Jackson, Tenn. - Twenty-one students and three faculty members from Union University participated in the 22nd Annual Area Collegiate Chemistry Meeting held in Murray, Ky. on April 10. This event was organized by and for area Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society.

Several Union students were selected to present papers at the meeting.

Misty Yow, a senior from Millington, Tenn., presented, "Synthesis of an Unsymmetrical Pyrrole-annelated Tetrathiafulvalene Derivative." This paper was recognized as the outstanding paper of the meeting.

Cathie Scarbrough, a senior from Henning, Tenn., presented, "Hydrosilylation with alpha-Vinyl Alkoxylates Catalyzed by Chloroplatinic Acid."

Michal Kliman, a senior from Slovakia, presented, "Intramolecular Hydrogen Bonding in 2-halomethyl Derivatives of Ethyl-1,2-dimethyl-4,5-diphenylpyrrole-3-carboxylate." Kliman resides in Jackson, Tenn.
