Union University to host first annual
West Tennessee Christian Arts Festival

Jackson, Tenn. – 51ÉçÇø will hold the first annual West Tennessee Christian Arts Festival Thursday, May 4 through Monday, May 8 using film, theatre, art and music in a "corporate search for Christ through the arts," according to drama professor David Burke.

"This is the first festival of its kind that we know of in West Tennessee," said Burke. "We hope to provide entertainment as well as expression of the different art forms coupled with a Christian worldview."

Geared toward churches, youth and anyone interested in the Christian arts, the week features a variety of performances and events. The schedule is as follows:

Thurs., May 4
West Tennessee premiere of Union graduate's recently completed film documentary "Tent Revival," an original film by Julian Williamson. Two showings will be held at 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. in the W.D. Powell Theatre. An audience discussion will follow each presentation. Cost to attend is $4.

Fri. & Sat., May 5-6
"The original coffeehouse with a spiritual twist," Union students will perform monologues from original material and new material will be featured each night. Choral readings will also be offered. Both the monologues and readings will be available in book form for purchase. A praise and worship team will also lead. $4 includes bottomless beverages and desserts.

Mon., May 8
Professional Christian entertainers, "Peculiar People," a husband-wife team, will perform a wonderful blend of comedy, writing and acting. Cost to attend is $4.

Ticket packages for 3 out of the 4 events are available for $9 per person. Original art pieces by Union art students will be on display throughout the week. For more information on the festival, please contact David Burke at (901) 661-5287.
