Jackson, Tenn. – 51ÉçÇø professor of music and
clarinetist David McClune will perform a clarinet recital Sunday, April 30
at 3 p.m. in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel.
"In 8th grade I announced to my parents that I wanted to be a band director," says McClune. "I am now in my 21st year as a band director and having a great time. We all have to work a job to sustain life, but it is a real blessing to have a job that you actually love. Being able to play is a rewarding musical outlet, where I can practice what I teach to the students," explains McClune. Having taught at Union for more than eighteen years, McClune has performed as Second Clarinet with the Jackson Symphony for the same length of time. A graduate of Westminster College, McClune received his master's of music from Bowling Green State University, and his doctorate from Florida State University. The recital will feature the Aaron Copland Clarinet Concerto, Le Grand Tango by the Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla and a concerto for two clarinets by Francois Devienne. Assisting McClune will be Gina Kinney on piano and clarinetist Fran Golman. The recital is free and open to the public. For more information, please call (901) 661-5294. |
