Jackson, Tenn. - Union
University's Department of Education will host a
colloquium on conflict resolution in K-12 schooling,
Monday, April 26 from 4-5 p.m. in Room 44 of the
Blasingame Academic Complex. Dr. William Hedspeth,
professor of education at Union, will lead the event with
a discussion about the needs and strategies of conflict
resolution. He will pay special attention to the
Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colo. "The
Littleton tragedy and the series of shootings we've seen
this year make it obvious that we need to learn how to
deal with conflict personally and with other people. We
hope this colloquium will help educators, parents and
students learn to successfully deal with conflict on a
day-to-day basis," Hedspeth says. Hedspeth currently
teaches the conflict resolution course in Union's Master
of Education program.
Monday's event is one of several discussions the
department of education hosts as part of its colloquium
series. The series is offered as a service to area
educators, both on the college and K-12 level. The forum
is open to the general public; admission is free.
