Edwards, a nationally known C.S. Lewis scholar, will lead

and 27.
Monday's lecture, titled "C.S. Lewis and the Christian Imagination," will be at 10 a.m. in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel of the Penick Academic Complex (PAC). "C.S. Lewis and the 21st Century: The Christian Scholar in the Public Square," Tuesday's lecture, will be at 7 p.m. in the university's Recital Hall (Room D-3), also in the PAC. A widely published author, Edwards is best known as one of the nation's major scholars on the work of C.S. Lewis . He has written two books on Lewis and edited or contributed to four additional volumes, including the recently published "C.S. Lewis Reader's Encyclopedia," for which he served on the Editorial Advisory Board and wrote 35 entries. He has also written more than two dozen major articles for academic journals and collections. He consulted with a public broadcasting documentary on the life of C.S. Lewis that will be broadcast in November 1999. Edwards is currently associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of English at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where he has been a member of the faculty since 1981. He has also served as Bradley Resident Scholar for the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., and in 1988 was the S.W. Brooks Visiting Professor of Rhetoric at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. Edwards has recently received a fellowship as a Fulbright scholar for the coming year. Edwards is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Rolla and received his master's degree from Kansas State University. He received the Ph.D. in English from the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to his academic and professional pursuits, Edwards is an active church leader and a frequent speaker for groups such as Campus Crusade and Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship. He lectures regularly on the campuses of Christian colleges and universities across the United States. The Staley Lecture Series is an annual event funded by the Thomas F. Staley Foundation. The Foundation supports lecture series at liberal arts institutions across the country that enrich the quality of Christian service and sharpen the effectiveness of Christian witness. |
