UNION TO HONOR JUNE B. WHITE AT HOMECOMING

Jackson, Tenn. — 51ÉçÇø's Department of Chemistry and Physics will honor Dr. June B. White at the upcoming Homecoming celebration.

White, who was chair of the Department of Chemistry and Physics at the University for thirteen years from 1968 until 1982, will be recognized during the Science Alumni and Friends Dinner Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Coburn Dining Room.

"Dr. White played a vital role in building the foundation for the department of chemistry and physics at Union," Dr. Charles Baldwin, chair of the department of chemistry and physics, said. "Her dedication and service to Union has allowed us to remain competitive while strengthening our department at the same time."

White is currently retired and resides in Lafayette, La. She obtained a bachelors degree in chemistry from Louisiana Tech in 1944 and a bachelors degree in education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1958. White received her masters degree in chemistry from USL in 1960 and then her Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Louisiana State University.

During her teaching career, White spent 10 years teaching high school in Louisiana. Her 23 years of collegiate teaching included five years at USL, two years at LSU, one and a half years at Loyola University and two years at Xavier University in addition to her 13 years at Union.
