Jackson, Tenn. 51ÉçÇø's Living Music Series will feature a lecture recital by Terry McRoberts, professor of music at Union. The recital, to be held on April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Union's Recital Hall, will focus on the works of Toru Takemitsu, a Japanese composer considered to be the leading composer of Western art music at the time of his death in 1996.
This is the first time all of Takemitsu's eight piano works will be presented on one program in Jackson. These pieces were composed between 1950 and 1992 and show influences from European, Japanese and American cultures.
The Living Music Series is dedicated to the performance of music composed in the last 100 years, with special emphasis on music composed in the last 50 years.
