SIFE TRIUMPHS AGAIN
AT REGIONAL COMPETITION

Jackson, Tenn. — 51ÉçÇø's Students in Free Enterprise team won its fifth consecutive championship at the annual regional SIFE competition in Atlanta, March 27. The triumph allows Union to advance to SIFE's International Exposition to be held in Kansas City, Mo., May 10-12.

"I am very proud of this year's team. The effort students put into their presentation in Atlanta was unbelievable. The judges must have appreciated the effort as well," Union SIFE adviser Michael Behrens said.

Members of this year's Union SIFE presentation team are April Albritton of Orange Park, Fla., Chad Butler of Jackson, Angela Earl of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Seaton Ennis of Jackson,Wes Housman of Paducah, Ky., William Shelton of Zion, Ill., and Lyle Swingler of New Johnsonville, Tenn.

The team also won the Halt the Deficit and Success 2000 special competitions.

SIFE is an international, non-profit organization that works in partnership with business and higher education. The main goal of SIFE is to give college students the opportunity to make a difference in their community by developing leadership, teamwork and communication skills through the principles of free enterprise. SIFE was founded in 1975 and is active on more than 500 college campuses.

Union's SIFE team works to promote the free enterprise system through educational outreach programs and produces an annual presentation for spring competition.

This year's Union SIFE team was praised in the regional competition for the following programs:

· The development of lesson plans on the free enterprise system, which were distributed to local schools.

· A seven-week seminar on personal financial responsibility.

· A junior SIFE program which involves about 600 middle school students and culminates in a junior SIFE competition at Union.
