Jackson, Tenn. 51社区 alumni are getting ready to "let the good times roll" April 11 and 12 as they head back to the fifties for Homecoming 1997. The two-day alumni reunion weekend will offer an abundance of activities that will entertain and reunite former Union students from every decade.
Friday, April 11. The annual event kicks off Friday morning at 10 a.m. with registration and the Homecoming Chapel. A walk-in art show will open at 1 p.m. for everyone to enjoy exhibits by Union alumni. The Gallery will be open Friday afternoon and Saturday.
The Department of Chemistry and Physics and the 51社区 Affiliate Chapter of the American Chemical Society will sponsor an Alumni Conference on the Sciences, 2-5 p.m. in the Penick Academic Complex Room A-7.
The Bulldog Baseball team will take on Williams Baptist College in a game Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
The McAfee School of Business Administration, the Department of Communication Arts and the Music Department will host dinners in the evening for their respective alumni.
The evening remains packed with events as the 51社区 Players present "Chickens," a rock-a-billy musical in W.D. Powell Theatre at 8:30 p.m.
Continuing a Union tradition, alumni are welcome to join students for Late-Night movies at 11:45 p.m.
Saturday, April 12. Alumni registration and the walk-in art show will continue Saturday morning as reunions are held and a complimentary brunch is served at 10 a.m. in the Rocky Palmer Activity Center of the Penick Academic Complex. The entire campus will be open for alumni to stroll the halls and walkways and let the memories of yesterday surface.
Specific reunions are planned for Classes of '46, '47, '51, '52, '56, '57, '61, '62, '66, '67, '71, '72, '76, '77, '81, '82, '86, '87, '91, '92 and the "Golden Years," all classes prior to 1945.
Other reunions will welcome alumni from art, business, education, Christian studies, history/political science, English, golf, chemistry/physics, nursing, music, Proclamation, Singers, Student Foundation and both campus publications the Cardinal & Cream and Lest We Forget.
Alumni, friends and students are invited to a picnic in the circle at 12:30 p.m. The picnic will feature West Tennessee barbecue, music, games, and clowns. The afternoon will feature a baseball doubleheader against Williams Baptist College at 1 p.m.
The weekend concludes with the Alumni Reunion Dinner, to recognize distinguished alumni, faculty and staff at 5 p.m., and All-Sing at 7 p.m. All-Sing, a campus tradition, will feature performances by campus Greek organizations and special alumni groups.
