Jackson, Tenn. - Author Steve Garber will speak at Union
University's second semi-annual Mars Hill Forum, Wednesday, March 22 at 10
a.m. in Harvey Lecture Hall and again at 12:15 in the Coburn Dining Room,
both of which are located in the Barefoot Student Union Building.
"Three words describe Steve Garber," says Greg Thornbury, professor of theology at Union and director of the Center for Christian Leadership. "He is brilliant, insightful and godly. He commands a lot of respect." Garber will address the problems relating to the issue of postmodernity, and will speak on the struggle Christians have with mixing their faith in a godless culture. The first session, at 10 a.m., is titled "So Why Would You Care?" and will discuss musical cultures including musicians Dave Matthews and Vaclav Havel. The second session, occurring at 12:15 p.m. will address "The Culture of Whatever," which will deal with responding to the world's attitudes such as questions dealing with absolute truth. A lunch break will be held between sessions. Lunch is not provided, but a sack lunch or means to buy a meal is advised. A popular speaker at both Christian and non-Christian institutions, Garber is best know for his book "The Fabric of Faithfulness: Weaving Together Belief and Behavior During the University Years," which was recognized as a Christianity Today Award winner in 1998. Admission is free and dress is casual. For more information, please contact Greg Thornbury at (901) 661-5082. |
