honored Dr. David Blackstock during Union's 175th Homecoming celebration, Feb. 12-13,
1999. Blackstock received the Distinguished Faculty/Staff Award. This award is a salute to long and meritorious service to Union by an employee. Having graduated from Union in 1964 with a bachelor of science, Blackstock returned to Union in 1973 as athletic director. He has held the post for 25 years. Before returning to Union, Blackstock earned his master of education in 1967 from Memphis State University and a doctorate of education from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1973. Coach Blackstock has helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to win 11 conference championships. In 1998, they won the NAIA Division I National Championship for the first time in Union's history. Blackstock has been named the women's basketball coach of the year four times and celebrated his 500th win last month. Since 1991, Union's women's basketball has remained one of the top five winningest programs in the NAIA. |
