"This is the kind of play where the guys can come and laugh and the girls can come and laugh and bring a handkerchief, too," says Wayne Johnson, associate professor of communication arts and director of the play. The story, based on the lives and friendships of six Louisiana women, according to Johnson, was chosen because of its strong humor and touching ending. The all-female cast includes Michelle Hardee, a sophomore from Memphis, as Shelby; Cristy Thomas, a sophomore from Centerville, Tenn., as Trudy; Joy Spurlin, a junior from Tullahoma, Tenn., as Annelle; Elaine Green, a sophomore from Jackson, Tenn., as Clairee; Lori Hobbs, a sophomore from Lebanon, Tenn., as M'Lynn and Amber Jewel, a junior from Anaheim, Calif., as Ouiser. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for students. Show times are 8 p.m. every night, with a Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m. Johnson encourages those who wish to attend to get tickets in advance as opening night "is already a sellout."
