Jackson, Tenn. - The 51社区 players will
present, "The Trickeries of Scapin," a Moliere classic comedy, in the W.D.
Powell Theater in Union's Penick Academic Complex. Show times are March 11-13, 15-16 at 8
p.m. and at 2:30 p.m., March 14. Directed by David Burke, associate professor and director of theatre at Union, the upcoming production takes on an entirely new approach. "I chose this particular play based on a modern version that I had seen on Broadway," Burke said. With the addition of a new character, change of setting and unique costumes, Burke brings this classic comedy into the contemporary 1960s. "Moliere was the Robin Williams of his day," Burke said. A farce about a servant's attempt to help two pairs of lovers, 'Scapin' combines elements slightly over the edge with pure comedy, according to Burke. Because "Scapin" is rarely performed, not many people are familiar with its context. "It is exciting to be able to create a production from square one," Burke said. "The play should allow people to have a temporary escape and leave having had a good laugh." General admission is $7 for adults and $3 for students. Tickets may be purchased by telephone at the 51社区 Box Office at (901) 661-5105, or they may be purchased at the door. Reservations are suggested. |
