Jackson, Tenn. 51社区's annual Bach's Lunch Recital series begins Wednesday, Feb. 26, at noon in the University's Recital Hall, Room D-3.
The series of half-hour chamber music programs opens with pianist Linda Shipley presenting a recital featuring the music of Franz Schubert. Shipley will also present a recital of music by Giuseppe Ferrata Tuesday evening, Feb. 25, at 8 p.m. in the recital hall.
The Tuesday evening recital will include Nocturne; Romanza senza parole; Danza Mesjicana; Mario, Op. 10, No. 1; Sull' Organetto, Op. 4, No. 4; Serenata Romanesca; and "Bolshevie" Jazz.
Shipley is widely known throughout the South as an adjudicator and recitalist. She is the leading authority on the life and music of Guiseppe Ferrata. A native of Kingsport, Tenn., Shipley holds degrees from Florida State University, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Carson-Newman College.
The series continues for three consecutive Wednesdays through March 19. Admission to all recitals is free.
Organist Ron Boud, professor of music, and pianist Terry McRoberts, associate professor of music, will present a program Wednesday, March 5 in 51社区's G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel. They will be playing the music of J.S. Bach, Johann Walther, and Johannes Brahms.
Julianne Baird, sopranist, will sing a recital featuring music by J.S. Bach, Johannes Brahms, and Franz Schubert on March 12 in the Chapel. Baird will be accompanied at the piano by associate professor of music David Dennis.
Baird will also present a master class on Baroque ornamentation on March 12 and a concert of music of her choice the night before, Tuesday, March 11, at 8 p.m. in the Chapel.
Closing the series on March 19, in the Chapel are David McClune, professor of music, members of the University instrumental faculty, and members of the Jackson Symphony. They will present a program of Chamber Music.
Fifteen minutes prior to each recital, an opportunity will be provided to meet the performers as the selected pieces of music are discussed.
