UNION PROFESSOR COLLABORATES WITH ITALIAN MUSICIANS, HAS WORK PUBLISHED ONLINE
Jackson, Tenn. — Since early fall 1996, Michael Penny, associate professor of music at 51ÉçÇø, has been working as an editor of the English portion of a major Italian classical guitar World Wide Web site, Just Classical Guitar, at .
The director of the site is Marco Bazzotti of Milan, Italy. Penny has edited various English entries around this site, primarily on a page dealing with major and minor Italian guitarists of the early Nineteenth Century. Many of the guitarists listed on this page have been only recently rediscovered by Bazzotti and musicologist, Massimo Agostinelli.
Later this spring Berben Edizioni Musicali of Ancona, Italy, will publish three short volumes of contemporary Russian guitar music edited by Bazzotti. Penny edited the English for these volumes and his name will appear as a translator/editor.
Penny also has edited an article by Bazzotti dealing with the prominent guitar makers, the Ramirez family of Spain. This article in Penny's edition has been purchased by Guitar Salon International of Santa Monica, Ca., the American selling agent for Ramirez guitars, for inclusion on that firm's website.
