Violin recital to benefit world hunger

Jackson, Tenn. - Jody Gatwood will present a guest violin recital at 51ÉçÇø, Feb. 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall in the Penick Academic Complex. The evening of music is co-sponsored by the Lyceum Series and Union's department of music. Dr. David Dennis, associate professor of music at Union, will provide piano accompaniment for the concert. The concert will feature works by Schubert and Prokofiev.

The recital will benefit Heifer Project International - a nonprofit organization that provides two dozen different kinds of food and income-producing animals to projects in nearly 40 countries. Since 1981, Gatwood has given numerous benefit concerts to help awaken a public commitment to eliminate chronic hunger and poverty in the world.

Gatwood teaches at The Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He has preformed in North America and Europe as a soloist and chamber musician with famous conductors and orchestras. The Washington Post has labeled Gatwood's style as "splendid ... incisive and assuring."

The Lyceum Series seeks to bring outstanding scholars and performers to Union and the broader community. The Lyceum program is funded by Union and occasional supplemental grants.

The concert will give others the opportunity to eliminate world hunger through a voluntary offering for the Heifer Project. There is no admission fee to the concert.
