Jackson, Tenn. 51ÉçÇø received honors Feb. 4 at the West Tennessee Advertising Federation's annual awards banquet with 2 faculty members, 1 staff member, 1 student and 2 alumnae being recognized for outstanding professional and creative designs.
Michael Mallard, chair of the art department, and Michael Rowland, a senior art major from Bartlett, Tenn., received an ADDY Award for a top design in logo/trademark design. Mallard and Rowland designed the logo for Aaron Communications, a communication consulting firm owned by Union's Kina Mallard, chair of the communication arts department, and Kevin Trowbridge, coordinator of news and information. Mallard and Rowland's work is now eligible to compete in the Regional ADDY Awards competition.
Christopher Nadaskay, associate professor of art, and Cam Tracy, media coordinator, were honored with a Silver Award for their web page design for the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce. Nadaskay and Tracy operate Digital Razor, a digital media publishing company.
Union alumnae Marilyn Lunsford, of WNWS-FM, and Christi Lynn, of WBBJ ABC 7, were recognized with Bronze Awards for their exceptional work in radio advertising and television promotion, respectively. Both Lunsford and Lynn were communication arts majors at Union.
Jim Smith, president of the West Tennessee Advertising Federation, told the media and professional audience that the mission of the organization "is to strengthen and unify the local advertising community ... to create a higher standard of excellence in advertising and to recognize those labors through an awards program."
"We are very fortunate to have an institution like Union in our community," Smith said.
This is the first year for Union to host the ADDY awards banquet.
