| Jackson, Tenn. - 51ÉçÇø will continue its
175th birthday celebration with Homecoming 1999, Feb. 9-13. Titled "The Celebration
Continues ... 175 Years and Counting," the university expects to draw hundreds of
alumni and friends to the campus to participate in the festivities. The university kicked off its 175th birthday party at last year's Homecoming with a 175-foot long birthday cake. The cake was certified with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and entered into the Guiness Book of World Records. Homecoming 1999 will include several student and alumni activities, including an open mic and kareoke night in the Union cafeteria, a spirit competition following Thursday night's basketball games and a Time Tunnel Trivia game show featuring alumni participants. The Homecoming Trophy will make its debut at Homecoming 1999. For the first time ever, Union's student organizations will compete throughout the week for Homecoming points by participating in the various student activities. The organization with the most points by Saturday's basketball games will win the trophy. The Homecoming schedule is as follows: Tuesday, Feb. 9 8 p.m. Homecoming game night, Rocky Palmer Activity Center Wednesday, Feb. 10 9 p.m. Open mic and kareoke night, Union cafeteria Thursday, Feb. 11 10 p.m. Bonfire/spirit competition, across Walker Road from the Hyran E.
